Not Me Monday: Weekend re-cap

25 weeks, 1 day pregnant
  • I did not sew and sew and sew until my back turned into a pretzel. And I certainly didn’t whine and complain about the pain that it caused me.
  • I did not live up to the preggo stereotype by eating a grapefruit, Gummi Bears and bacon — all at once, as an afternoon snack.
  • I did not require detailed over-the-phone instructions from Darling Husband in order to properly cut my grapefruit … and still make a huge pulpy mess out of it.
  • I did not microwave two cinnamon buns — one for me and one for Darling Husband — and then eat all of mine (and most of his) before he got back from walking Little Dog.
  • I did not pee my pants a bit from laughing way too hard with Mom and Little Sis. I was not totally nonchalant about it, and just mildly annoyed that I’d have to wash my maternity jeans again so soon.

Welcome to Week 26

25 weeks pregnant!
Entering the final week of the second trimester!
I can’t BELIEVE this is the last week of the second trimester. I also can’t believe that this week — on Saturday, to be exact — I will be into the double-digits of remaining days. I’ll only have 99 (or so) days left. Insane. I remember when I first got that counter-thingy and it was in the high-200s.
Here’s what happening with Baby Boy this week:

Baby’s size: Just under two pounds, and 14 inches long.

Development: His oil and sweat glands are now functioning (typical boy, haha). His fingernails, toenails, eyebrows and eyelashes are now fully present and will continue to grow until birth (awww).

Appearance: He’s starting to add some body fat (but most of it will come in the final weeks).

Apparently Baby Boy can respond to sound and can hear me and Darling Husband when we talk. We tried testing out various names on him last night, to see if we could get a response, but there wasn’t anything noticeable.
I have been singing more to him lately, so that he can learn to recognize my awful but spirited singing voice. This morning I noticed the sun coming through his cheerful yellow curtains, and burst into a rendition of “Mister Sun … Sun … Mister Golden Sun … Please shine down on meeeee!” Oh yeah, Darling Husband was totally wowed by it.
And now it’s stuck in my head, but I can’t remember all of the words. Ah, why, thank you, Google

Oh Mister Sun, Sun,
Mister Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me

Oh Mister Sun, Sun,
Mister Golden Sun,
Hiding behind a tree …

These little children
Are asking you
To please come out
So we can play with you

Oh Mister Sun, Sun,
Mister Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me!

Oh Mister Sun, Sun,
Mister Golden Sun,
Please shine down on me

Oh Mister Sun, Sun,
Mister Golden Sun,
Hiding behind a tree …

These little children
Are asking you
To please come out
So we can play with you

Oh Mister Sun, Sun,
Mister Golden Sun,
Please shine down on …
Please shine down on …
Please shine down on me!

Weekly re-cap

(Feb. 14 to Feb 20)

Symptoms: Leg pain, back pain (holy HELL, the back pain!), feeling like I have to pee all the time (but then actually peeing very little when I sit down). General grunting and groaning when I do something stupid like spend three hours measuring/cutting pinning fabric on the floor, and try to get up. MY BAAAAAACK!

Body changes: Belly = big (and ever-growing). Boobs = big (but not getting bigger). I also suspect my ankles are a bit … less bony?

What’s new? The roadmap. Ohhh, the roadmap!
Belly button: Still indented, but getting very close to the surface.
Energy level: Good. I’m getting a lot done, but I get tired easily. And the back thing (owww) forces me to take breaks, which is good.
Baby preparations: Nursery is totally painted. Crib is put together (eeeeeeek!). Curtains and cribskirt are sewed.
Cravings: Ice cream seems to have waned a bit this week. As bad as it sounds, I would have to admit that fast food is quickly becoming my #1 craving.

High point: Getting some HUGE wallops from Baby Boy. The other day I was drinking water and he kicked so hard I actually doubled over in surprise. I still am not positive I’m feeling the kicks on the outside, but Darling Husband thinks he felt a flutter against his hand the other day, so I’m hoping for a more concrete “baby feel” this week.

Low point: Feeling drained after my glucose test. It was much, much better than expected, though. Now to wait for the results!

Paranoid moment of the week: Despite Baby Boy’s occasional wallops, there are some days when he’s super quiet — and of course, I worry. I read other preggo blogs, and they describe major movement around this time, and then I get all panicky. I wish I had an at-home ultrasound machine so I could make sure he’s fine when I get worried!

Celebrate the boy

24 weeks, 5 days pregnant
What a good idea! For the month of February, Made has teamed up with Made by Rae to bring us “Celebrate the boy” month.
As Dana from Made puts it: “To “moms of boys” out there, we’ve heard your woes! There just isn’t enough info shared amongst us about BOYS. There aren’t enough clothing ideas, enough tutorials, enough fresh ideas. Well, ladies (and little gents), we’re going to stock your Tonka Trucks full of info!”

I agree this was definitely in order. I’ve only (knowingly) been the mommy-to-be of a boy for a few weeks now — wow, seems much longer! — and I’ve been disappointed with the lack of boy items on many of the major crafty blogs. Seeing a million craft tutorials for hair ribbons and dresses can be frustrating.
I can’t wait to read back through all of their February entries and get lots of great boy ideas! Thanks, Dana and Rae!

The blood glucose test

Friday, February 19, 2010

24 weeks, 5 days pregnant
7:30 a.m. “Off to get my blood glucose test today! La-de-da.
7:35 a.m. “Now to eat a hearty, low-G.I. breakfast of peanut-butter toast and milk, so that I don’t completely crash from the sugar-high. Oh yes, I’ve got this covered.”
8:20 a.m. “This is the drink? Oh, that looks OK. It’s nice and cold, and in a glass bottle just like one of those specialty sodas. Sure, I’ll drink in five minutes. And then I wait for an hour? No problem!”
8:21 a.m. “Oh, Darling Husband! It tastes just like orange pop. Seriously, it’s good. I wish you could try it.”
8:22 a.m. “This isn’t bad. I’m so relieved it doesn’t taste terrible. I am getting kind of full, though.”
8:23 a.m. “It’s … it’s very sweet. What do the ingredients say?”
8:24 a.m. “I only have a minute left! Oh God, there’s a lot left. I’m … ugh, I’m getting really full. I feel like I’ll throw up if I drink more.”
8:25 a.m. “Crap! It’s time! And I still have 1/3 of the bottle to go … Ugh! Crap! … Ughhhhh!”
8:26 a.m. “Done … Ugh … No, Darling Husband, hold onto the empty bottle. I might need to prove I drank it … Ugh …”
8:27 a.m. “Ughhhh … Talk to me! Distract me! I feel awwwwful …”
8:42 a.m. “What time is it now?
8:54 a.m. “What time is it now? How much longer until 9:25?”
9:03 a.m. “How much longer?”
9:17 a.m. “Almost … there …”
9:25 a.m. “Why haven’t they called me yet???”
9:26 a.m. “Yes! I’m right here!” *Waddle, waddle*
9:27 a.m. “Don’t mind me if I look away … Yes, it’s our first … Very excited … Yes, I’m staring at the colourful fish wallpaper … No, I feel OK … Sure, I’ll hold that cotton there, but I can’t look … No, I’m fine … Great, thanks!
9:28 a.m. “We’re parked on four.”
9:29 a.m. “Ughhhh, I have to go to work now???”
9:30 a.m. “Ugh … feel weak … I think McDonalds breakfast might help …”
