You guys know I love a good thrift store lamp. When I find a matching set, I will ALWAYS buy them so I can get my lamp makeover on. *waves hands in the air like I just don’t care*
Usually, they don’t have shades, but who cares because they’d probably be ugly old shades, anyway. It’s SO easy to paint a lamp — no matter how old or strangely-shaped it may be — and buy a new shade at Walmart for 10 bucks.
Like this …
… and if they DO happen to come with a yucky shade, you can always recover them like this …
So when I went thrifting a couple of weeks ago, I did a happy dance when I came across a matching set of two HUGE lamps. Sure, they were covered with a weird floral pattern, but WHO CARES? They were THREE BUCKS EACH, and this place tests their electronics and lamps, so I knew they worked. Score!
I wanted to have fun with the colour since I was making them for my new (not-yet-completed) home office. The obvious choice was my favourite colour, pink, and LOOKEE HERE –> pink lamps are IN STYLE!
A: Tassel Table Lamp (Cupcakes and Cashmere) from Nordstrom* ($199.55 CAD)
B: Pop of Pink Lamp from Dormify* ($94 USD)

I ended up mixing the same pink I’d tried on our daughter’s makeup table chair — a combo of “Fork York Red” and “Buttermilk Cream” from Fusion Mineral Paint. But it felt a little too deep — heading into dusty rose territory — so I lightened it up for the second coat. Oh, and I didn’t paint the gold rim around the bottom since I wanted to keep it.
Then, while the second (lighter) coat of pink was still wet, I sprinkled on GLITTER because why not? It’s my office and I’m all about the glitter. I used “Bubblegum”* and “Glitz”* from my hoard of Recollections Extra Fine Glitter (from Michaels).
The finishing touch were two new white lampshades (from Walmart, where I always grab ’em). I can’t zoom out to show you what furniture they’re sitting on (stay tuned for the reveal a week from Monday) but look how pretty they are now …
Not bad for $3 lamps + $17 lampshades + paint and glitter I already owned!
What colour would you have painted them? Let me know in the comments or over on Facebook!
