Weekly re-cap

(Nov. 8 to Nov. 14)

Symptoms: Cravings (still for breakfast foods and Pizza Hut), headaches, the C-word, heartburn (and FYI Tums are disgusting).

Body changes: I really do look pregnant when I’m standing up. Now that everyone at work knows, I’m feeling more comfortable wearing tight shirts that show it off more. Boobs prevented me from fitting into another dressreally need to buy some new bras, as only one is comfortable now.

Cravings: Cold cereal (but healthier ones, like Vector and Quaker Oat Squares), Meatlovers pizza from Pizza Hut.

Loved chowing down on: Fresh fruit, cold cereal, Meatlovers pizza, cheeseburgers, home fries with ketchup

Could not stomach: Mayonnaise, chicken (I miss wraps, but can’t do it), ground beef

High point: Having no morning sickness, and getting some energy back! Last Sunday I was mega-productive, and throughout the week I was able to pick away at little chores.

Low point: The mood swings have arrived. That is all I need to say.

Paranoid moment of the week: Avoiding Darling Husband’s family — actually, that’s been for two weeks now — because H1N1 is circulating like wildfire. I feel kind of mean, because I’m not letting him go see them either, but HELLO, HE IS NOT VACCINATED YET and YES I AM PARANOID BUT THAT’S MY PREROGATIVE.

Weird moment of the week: Walking into a maternity store with Darling Husband and having the clerk immediately ask how far along I was. I said three months — although I am still not positive if 12 weeks counts as three months, or three months (September, October, November) counts as three months. Anyway, when she walked away, Darling Husband (rightfully) pointed out that I may not have necessarily been pregnant, and could have been just shopping for someone else. Am I gaining too quickly???

10 weeks, 5 days pregnant

I suspect I am totally positive today is the last day I’ll be wearing this dress for a while.
And it’s another dress I love! Boo.

It doesn’t have any stretch to it, and right now my boobs are exploding out of the top part. I’m wearing a cardigan to cover it up, but it just feels … tight and uncomfortable.
For someone who asks Darling Husband on a daily basis, “Are my boobs really bigger?” … I think I really have my answer.

Scenes from yesterday …

ME: Omigod, you know what I want? … Meatlovers pizza from Pizza Hut.

DARLING HUSBAND: Uh-huh.
ME: … Isn’t that weird? … Because I don’t really like it anymore … but you do … Wouldn’t it be good right now?
DARLING HUSBAND: I guess.
ME: … It’s literally all I can think about. If I order one, will you please-please-please go pick it up?
DARLING HUSBAND: No, you go right ahead if you want one.
ME: … I swear, I take back anything I ever said before about cravings. This is the real deal! I need Meatlovers pizza!
DARLING HUSBAND (laughing): You’re funny …
ME: I’m so serious! It’s all I can think about!
DARLING HUSBAND (goes back to watching the movie): Uh-huh … Hey, what are you doing on the computer?
ME: Just ordered one online. It will be here in 20 minutes. You have to pay while I hide because I’m still in my jammies.

Good decisions

10 weeks, 3 days pregnant
Good decisions I made for my baby (in the last 24 hours):
  • Took the stairs at work … because the elevator was broken
  • Went for a walk … to the fancy cupcake shop
  • At dinner last night with Darling Husband, Best Friend and her husband, I ordered club soda and orange juice … and did not beg waiter for a Diet Coke
  • I actually ate the carrot stick that came with my chicken wings … which I never usually do
  • I remembered to moisturize with my special preggo cream last night … which I often forget
  • Went to bed immediately after coming home … when I really wanted to stay up and play the rented PS3 game with Darling Husband, since today’s a holiday
  • Ate a bowl of super-healthy Vector with skim milk (and added Bran Buds, ’cause, you know) and sliced a banana onto it … when all I really wanted was Frosted Flakes … and because Darling Husband is probably going to make bacon when he wakes up 🙂

Coming out of the (preggo) closet

10 weeks, 2 days pregnant
The cat is officially out of the bag at the office.
And by that, of course, I mean I’ve come out of the pregnancy closet.
It did not happen the way I pictured all along. I always figured I would keep the good news to myself until (A) I was out of the first trimester, or (B) I was throwing up so violently and frequently that I had to beg to go home.
Neither of those situations played out.
I also figured I would call my three bosses together in an office, close the door, and calmly tell them the news. I would explain that I fully intended to work right up until a week or two before my due date, and that I had every intention of returning to work after maternity leave — even though I still have dreams of being able to stay at home, if possible.
That did not happen either.
I don’t want to get into specifics, but basically there was a complete unexpected, horrible situation which resulted in me blurting out the news to my bosses — at around six weeks pregnant (not ideal). They were really great about it, and I was glad to have told them, but it was not part of the plan.
Since then, news has slowly crept around our (extremely small) office, until every single person knew — but no one was acknowledging it out loud (extremely awkward). So I felt compelled to hide my bump with concealing outfits, and automatically felt myself sucking in when someone walked into my office. It was weird.
As of yesterday — a comment in the lunchroom basically ended the no-one-is-acknowledging nightmare — the “secret” is not such a secret anymore, and I do feel relieved. I got dressed today without worrying about how knocked-up I looked, and am wearing a tight-ish sweater over dress pants (and the band, of course). I look mucho preggo in it, but I don’t mind now. It’s a good feeling. I’m not hiding!
Just a few more weeks before I’ll be comfortable with the world knowing!
