Sign of the times

My baby is going to be a Gemini!

I can’t believe I didn’t think of this earlier. As a Leo, I’ve always been (kinda) interested in astrological mumbo-jumbo — and have always felt I was very much a Leo.
But, oddly enough, it didn’t even occur to me to check the baby’s sign. Then today, someone commented on my preggo announcement on Facebook, and said the baby would be a Gemini.

Some quick research shows that Geminis are born between May 22 and June 21 — most definitely this will be Little Baby, unless he/she is extremely, mind-blowingly early or late. Their symbol is “The Twins” — not as cool as a lion, I must say, and here are their traits:
Traditional (good) traits:
  • Adaptable and versatile
  • Communicative and witty
  • Intellectual and eloquent
  • Youthful and lively

On the dark side …

  • Nervous and tense
  • Superficial and inconsistent
  • Cunning and inquisitive
Not a bad mix. I like that our baby might be especially adaptable — since I’m not! Being communicative and eloquent is very important to my writer self. And, really, aren’t we all a little superficial and tense sometimes?
Another interesting thing is that Gemini is a “mutable” sign (along with Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces), which means they “straddle two temperate zone seasons.”
People born under a mutable sign are thought to be adaptable, impressionable, sharp, sympathetic, communicative, resourceful and restless, with a gift for seeing both sides of a situation at the same time and an immense desire for knowledge, variety and new ideas.

They supposedly adapt very well to new situations, possess much flexibility, seldom have any particular agenda and are perfectly happy to fill in an assigned role. However, they are also said to be inconsistent, changeable, nervous, indecisive and irresponsible, with a tendency to get wrapped up in tiny particulars. There is also a certain duality associated with all the mutable quality signs.

The mutable or bicorporal signs signify a duality of life experiences, and those individuals who are influenced by these signs are likely to have two main experiences, two main vocations, or two main loves that will strongly affect them for the totality of their existence.

Does having two main vocations mean Little Baby will be able to buy a mansion for his/her darling parents?

13 weeks, 1 day pregnant
  • While texting Little Sis today, I did not forget how to spell “inevitable.”
  • I definitely didn’t stare at the screen of my BlackBerry for a solid minute, thinking “E-N …? I-N-E …?”
  • I did not eventually give up on spelling “inevitable,” and instead type “it’s a given.”

Look how far we’ve come, my baby!

13 weeks pregnant
Officially in the second trimester!
Yessssssssss!
Today is a huge milestone. I’m officially in the second trimester, and we all know what that means.
It is kind of hard to believe I’m 1/3 of the way there, to having Little Baby in my arms. In some ways it’s seemed to fly by, and in other ways it feels like I’ve been pregnant for a long time. I have known for nine weeks, which is a long time when it’s something you think about every two seconds!
The tentative plan is to announce on Facebook this week, so it’s public knowledge. I’m really looking forward to seeing people’s reactions, and it will be a relief to not have to keep quiet.
The second trimester is often called “the honeymoon period,” because many of the icky first-trimester symptoms (like nausea) have faded, and you’re not enormous and uncomfortable like you are in the third.
The thing I’m looking forward to most in the second trimester is feeling the baby move and kick — which could start as early as the next couple of weeks, depending on how sensitive I am at picking it up.
So happy to have made it safely to this point! Praying the next two trimesters go smoothly, and that Little Baby continues to grow big and strong.

Weekly re-cap

(Nov. 22 to Nov. 28)

Symptoms: Headaches! Also dizziness, and breast soreness amped up a little bit.

Body changes: Continuing to rock the bump in stretchy tops and my beloved maternity jeans. Bought a much-needed new bra for my ginormous(ish) boobs.

Energy level: I’ve been physically tired this week, but getting more done than usual. Keeping on top of the dishes/laundry/cleaning is slowly becoming easier.

Cravings: Cereal with skim milk — bought three boxes! And CINNAMON BUNS!

Could not stomach: Mayonnaise, chicken, ground beef. Was also very grossed out by Little Sis’s salmon entree at lunch yesterday.

High point: Hitting the 12-week mark! Oh, and cinnamon buns, haha.

Low point: Between the headaches and dizziness, sometimes it’s hard to remember what normal feels like.

Paranoid moment of the week: Thinking that I will most likely announce my pregnancy on my real-life Facebook account this week — and then second-guessing myself, worrying that something will go wrong after I announce it.

Weird moment of the week: More “my-forehead-feels-hot” moments, but my temperature is always just below normal. Weird!

Emotional moment of the week: Browsing in a new baby store with Mom and Little Sis, and seeing their excitement over all the adorable stuff. They are both looking forward to the baby so much, and it makes me so happy.
Best decision of the week: Getting maternity leggings and a new bra. Comfort city!

12 weeks, 6 days pregnant
1 day to go until the 2nd trimster!

It is very dangerous to go into a maternity store. Sure, half the stuff is lame and babyish and you wouldn’t be caught dead in it. But the other half is nice! And it fits you! And it’s comfortable!

I made my second trip to Thyme Maternity with Darling Husband today, in desperate search of a larger bra. I had a much nicer sales associate this time around, and she sized me to make sure I got the right fit.
Of course, one thing led to another, and we ended up buying …
  • One nude maternity bra
  • One black maternity bra
  • Three pairs of stretchy maternity underwear
  • A pair of black leggings
  • A pair of black dress pants
  • A striped purple sweater
  • A ruffled, long-sleeved black top
Don’t worry — everything is going to be wrapped up for Christmas, with the exception of the nude bra and the leggings (because woah, do I ever need them now).

Darling Husband is off at work now, so I should probably go ahead and wrap everything else immediately, to avoid the temptation to wear it.

How many days until Christmas?
