Pillow party

19 weeks, 2 days pregnant
Little Sis to the rescue again, folks! One of my Christmas presents from her was a wedge pillow, and it’s been a lifesaver in helping me sleep lately.
When I first unwrapped it, I must confess that I had no clue how it would work. Wedge? What? Where would it go?
It’s a neat little pillow — shaped like a wedge, obviously — that you kind of shove under your bump when you’re sleeping on your side. It keeps the bump supported, so the weight doesn’t roll your body over and mash your face into the pillow.
So now when I get into bed, I lay on my side, shove the wedge under the bump, put a regular pillow between my legs, and put another regular pillow behind my back — so when my back’s sore, I can sort of lean back against it.
In the future, I can actually forsee using another pillow to put under my ankles (which hurt when I do too much walking).
And yup, Little Dog and Darling Husband are also somewhere in this mass of pillows.
On the edge of the bed.
Fighting for every inch of space.
Poor things.
Zzzzz.

Wipes mania

19 weeks, 2 days pregnant
I’ve been a busy bee lately, especially in the butt-wiping department … wait, that didn’t sound good. So far, I’ve finished:
10 “heavy-duty” wipes (8×12 double-sided, top-stitched flannel)

50 “light-duty” wipes (8×8 single-sided, zigzagged flannel)
The plan is to make another 50 or so “medium-duty” wipes (single-sided but the larger size of 8×12).
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the scale is as follows:
  • Light-duty wipes: Baby pee
  • Medium-duty wipes: Baby poo
  • Heavy-duty wipes: Baby poo explosions

Alphabet block bonanza

19 weeks, 1 day pregnant
It took a whack of felt, cotton, thread and stuffing — not to mention those hours of my life spent ironing, piecing, and hand-sewing (hours which I will never get back) — but the alphabet blocks are finished!

… I did 10, but they are not all pictured here. When I was arranging them for the photos, I kept accidentally spelling “NAG” and “CIG.” Didn’t seem appropriate, so eventually I stuck with initials.

If these blocks don’t help teach Little Baby letters and colours, I may just eat one.
Yeah, they were that much work.

19 weeks pregnant!!!

Welcome to week 20!
OH MY GOD, TWENTYYYYYY!

I can’t believe that in a week, I’ll officially be done with my teens (in a pregnancy-week sense, not an age sense. Sheesh, I’m 26). Then it’s just the twenties and thirties (hopefully not forties), and then Little Baby will be here!

To celebrate, here are some of the bib/burp cloth sets I made last week. They’re really easy and fun to make, and I love knowing I’ll be able to take Little Baby somewhere with a “matching” pair.

“Safari Chic”

“Canadiana Cutie”

For crafty-crafters interested in making these sets, there is no pattern (because I don’t take direction well, or am free-spirited, or something). I just drew half a bib shape, and traced it onto the fabric on a fold. Then I traced the same shape onto white stretch terrycloth, for the back.

Same deal with the burp cloths, except I just traced a tray I had stashed in the kitchen cupboard. I’m a big tracer and a big improviser, not so much a big measurer or pattern-follower. Trust me, it’s much easier this way.
Happy Bibbing!

Weekly re-cap

(Jan. 3 to Jan. 9)

Symptoms: Heartburn, obsessive nesting, horrific snoring, sinus weirdness, psycho over-reaction, back pain

Body changes: Unrecognizable boobs (OK, this has been going on for a while), a definite and major popping of my belly (I look super-pregnant now, all the time, no matter what I wear).

Energy level: High. The nesting spree continued, I sewed like crazy, cooked meals every night, attended two family events, and had a couple of girlfriends over. It’s good to be able to do stuff again!
Cravings: Not anything noticeable. Well, unless you count the BOWL of strawberries I downed after my girlfriends left. I intended to just have a couple more, and didn’t realize I’d eaten them all until my fingers touched the glass bottom. Darling Husband walked into the room at that moment and laughed. He’s sensitive that way.

High point: Looking really and truly pregnant, but not ginormous. I like that I have more a pregnant belly now, instead of just a could-just-be-chubbers bump. It looks good in my new maternity shirts.

Low point: Bad financial news.

Paranoid moment of the week: I was surprisingly un-paranoid this week. I really am getting used to this “being pregnant” thing — good thing, since I’m halfway done! — and I’m way more relaxed than I was in the first trimester.
