Double digits

26 weeks, 3 days pregnant
There are only 95 days — give or take — until Baby Boy arrives. I can’t believe we’re down to double-digits!
So how are we doing, preparation-wise? Here’s where we stand on our getting-ready-for-baby goals (as set out back in December):
  • Nursery cleared out, holes patched, etc. (by January 31)
  • Find out the sex of the baby (February 2)
  • Begin planning gender-specific nursery (February 3)
  • Register for baby stuff (by February 28)
  • Buy smaller desk for Darling Husband and relocate his computer to the living room (by February 28)
  • Move my laptop desk to the bedroom (by February 28)
  • Start picking up nice, used baby clothes (March 1)
  • Start working on nursery (March 1)
  • Attend baby shower (late March)
  • Pick up any items we still need (by May 1)
  • Nursery finished (by May 1)
It looks like we have accomplished a lot, and we have. Since finding out the sex — and getting to begin decorating — I was moving on overdrive. Gotta love that second trimester energy!
However, my energy level is now totally waning, and having less than 100 days left is making me a little antsy about getting everything done. Seeing how I seem to feel a little worse every day, I’m eager to get the nursery done, so I can relax and focus on smaller, fun OPTIONAL projects (if I have the energy).
It’s weird how “three months left” sounds like a long time, but “95 days left” seems super-quick, isn’t it?

Get them up! Way up!

26 weeks, 2 days pregnant
The difference between putting your feet up, and not putting your feet up? Well, it’s the difference between having cankles — or tree-trunks — and normal-looking ankles.
My mom has been insisting I put my feet up for weeks, and I have only listened occasionally. Most of the time, I’m busy sewing or painting or doing something while I watch TV, so my feet are flat on the carpet.
However, in two easy evenings, I learned that putting my feet up is now … very necessary.
Sunday evening: Did not put feet up. Did not have ankle bones.
Monday evening: Put feet up (exactly like the above photo). Had ankle bones.
If only all lessons were this easy to learn!

Baby movement update

26 weeks, 2 days pregnant
I just realized I haven’t been commenting much on Baby Boy’s movement, so here’s a quick update:
  • He has definite moments when I can feel him “wake up.” For example, when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, he goes from completely still to twitching around. Mommy’s sorry for waking you, baby!
  • I usually feel him moving around when I first wake up in the morning. I think he’s hungry, so breakfast is always first on the agenda.
  • He is quiet (i.e. pretty still) a lot during the day, except for after meals and snacks — that’s his time to shine!
  • He bops around a lot after dinner, and I can feel it more if I lie on my left side on the couch. I think he likes my almost-nightly ice-cream cone!
  • I have yet to feel anything concrete from the outside. But when I press my hands on my stomach, I can sometimes feel pulsing (mine, his, who knows?)
  • His kicks aren’t usually too strong — more of dull thuds — but occassionally they will actually surprise me, and make me jump a bit.
  • I haven’t had any painful kicks yet (knock on wood), or feet-tangled-in-my-ribs horror stories.

From what I’ve read from other mommy bloggers, Baby Boy seems to be quite a mellow little thing. I would not categorize his movement as nonstop major kicking, for sure — it’s more like a series of thuds every few hours or so, with nothing really in between.

I have also read that girls tend to be more active, so maybe there’s something to that?

Not Me Monday: Pain edition

26 weeks, 1 day pregnant
  • Last night, I did not have a LOT of difficulty getting from a lying-on-my-back-reading-in-bed position to a getting-up-to-pee position. I just popped up like a gymnast.
  • It was not so painful that it felt like someone was stabbing me in my back.
  • It did not take several attempts to get up.
  • I am totally not going to stop lying on my back, ever. I can handle it.
  • I slept soundly, and did not wake up several times during the night with awful, awful leg pain.
  • I did not, at several points throughout the night, wish it was morning already because nothing was making my legs feel better.
  • I did not shoot Darling Husband a death stare when he complained of sore legs this morning.

Third trimester? Whoa!

26 weeks pregnant

We’re in the home stretch, people! I can’t believe it! I have been pregnant for two whole trimesters, and I’m in the third (and final) one. Omigod.
I have heard from, well, everyone, that this is the most uncomfortable trimester. You’re not feeling nauseous/like a limp rag like you were in the first trimester, but you’re also not energetic and feeling pretty good (like the second trimester).
Here’s what I can expect in the third trimester:
But enough about me! Here’s what happening with Baby Boy this week:

Baby’s size: Just over two pounds, and 15 inches long.

Development: His eyes are opening this week! I wonder if they are brown like mine, or blue like Darling Husband’s?

Appearance: He’s perfectly formed — just has to gain some more weight and length before his big debut.

I’m off to work on the nursery, while I still have some energy left in me. Oh, and probably paint my toenails, since that is getting more difficult by the day. Happy Sunday!
