Making homemade gift tags from wooden door-hangers

On Friday, I blogged about following up with first-kid traditions by making sure your second child doesn’t get shafted.
I don’t think I ever blogged about the tags I made for D’s first Christmas (using wooden door-hangers from Michaels), so here they are — and yes, new ones for C are in the works!
We follow a unique gift approach for the kids for Christmas, which is as follows (oooh, that sounds official):
  • Something you want
  • Something you need
  • Something to play with
  • Something to read
  • And a new pair of jammies on Christmas Eve
I’ve seen other bloggers doing similar things — often using “something to wear” instead of “something to play with” — so it seems to be a popular idea. I really like that it keeps us reigned in, because kids’ stuff is soooo easy (and fun!) to buy.
If we didn’t have these guidelines, I think it would be much harder to stop ourselves from buying D and C all kinds of stuff. And since they also have very generous grandparents, aunts, and uncles, they will be getting plenty of stuff!

Those were D’s tags. They have worked wonderfully for his first two Christmases, and I hope they last for years to come.

Want to see Baby C’s tags? … Uh …

I promise! I’ll have them done soon. Stay tuned!

So what do you think?
