The world’s best vanilla buttercream frosting recipe

In the spirit of yesterday’s post, I’m just going to stop over-analyzing things and get back to blogging about whatever the hey I feel like! And that’s … frosting?
We make a lot of cupcakes around here. The kids both LOVE to bake, and I love to bake — cooking is another story! — so we usually bake once or twice a week, easy. It appears my Instagram account (“laptops2lullabies”) is mostly cupcake pictures, actually.
Because we could never — and should never — eat a whack-ton of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc., we send a lot of goodies to work with Darling Husband. He works outside at the airport where the conditions can be absolutely brutal, so he and his crew-mates really appreciate coming inside to a treat.
One of the things people seem to love the most is my vanilla buttercream. I say “my,” but really it’s not mine. It’s a recipe I downloaded from TLC website about a thousand years ago (three years ago) when I was going to make cupcakes for D’s first birthday party.
And you know what? It really, really, really is the best buttercream ever. I’m not a huge sweets-eater, but whenever I make this, I make a few OMGGGG sounds when I lick a spoonful of it. I think it’s the sea salt that gives it the OMG-factor?
You can put this buttercream on a cake-mix cake, and it takes it to SOARING NEW HEIGHTS. In fact, I almost always use cake-mix for white cake, because I feel like it’s better. White cake from scratch is often too crumbly, but the mix turns out perfectly spongy and awesome.
(Chocolate cake is another story — I use my mother-in-law’s unbelievable recipe — so that will be a post for another day.)

You can grab the recipe here, but note that I always use milk instead of water (the original recipe said milk). Other than that, make it exactly as directed. It’s awesome, and it turns out awesome every single time.

So now you know my secret! Maybe I won’t be known for my amazing buttercream skillz if everyone starts using this recipe! 🙂

P.S. I apologize for making you desperately crave buttercream right now. Maybe you can find a bakery nearby? I really am sorry.

So what do you think?
