The good, the bad … the ugly has yet to come

33 weeks, 1 day pregnant
The cloth diapers are officially ALL pre-washed!
And even though I have yet to actually diaper a baby with them, I somehow have formed all of these opinions on the three varieties of diapers, washing techniques, etc. Yes, I am that nuts.
BumGenius one-size pocket diapers:
  • I loved how the “covers” (i.e. the cute colourful shell of the diaper) dried super-fast
  • The “inserts” (absorbant pad that slides inside the shell’s pocket) took quite a while to dry
  • I fastened the velcro tabs to the laundry tabs before washing, and they stayed in place perfectly
  • Stuffing them after they were dry (i.e. sliding the inserts into the shells) was super-quick to do while watching TV
  • Overall rating so far: 5 out of 5
BumGenius organic one-size all-in-one diapers:
  • The snaps were kind of hard to unsnap, but I think that’s a good thing (don’t want Baby Boy un-diapering himself)
  • Since the layers of absorbent padding are sewing right into the diaper (making it an all-in-one), it did take a long time to dry them
  • The organic cotton, fresh from the dryer, felt amazing. Made me wish they made adult undies!
  • Overall rating so far: 4.5 out of 5 (due to slow drying time)
Kushies one-size all-in-one diapers:
  • Just as I suspected, their cheapness became even more apparent when I washed them. The insides of them got a fuzzy, pilled look — and they didn’t feel that soft
  • Even though I fastened the velcro tabs to the laundry tabs (just like with BumGenius), they almost always came unfastened during the cycle — and attached themselves to the BumGenius inserts. Sigh.
  • They dried pretty quickly, for an all-in-one
  • Overall rating so far: 2 out of 5 (these are “extras” for sure, and I hope I don’t need to use them that often!)

  1. You may want to try some snapped diapers over all these with velcro. All velcro diapers will at some point stick to each other. The laundry tabs just do not stay closed everytime. I love Kissaluvs. They are awesome for newborns with their fitted diapers and the new AIO is antastic!

  2. Thanks for the advice, Kelsey! And actually, my BumGenius organic all-in-ones (I have 12 of those) are the kind with snaps. I agree that I think they will be better than the velcro!

So what do you think?
