24 weeks pregnant!!!
Well, it’s the start of Week 25 — twenty-five!!! Soon the “twenties” will be behind us, and the “thirties” are like, whoa — you could pop out a baby very soon, lady. Because 40 is the finish line. Crazy!
Let’s get caught up on some stats:
Baby’s size: Approximately 1.5 lbs and 13.5 inches long. But if you ask my mother, he is already a chunker, and way bigger than that.
Development: The structures of his spine are forming, including 33 vertebrae, 150 joints, and 1,000 ligaments. His capillaries are also forming this week. By the end of week 25, air sacs and blood vessels in his lungs will develop, getting him ready for his first breath. So far, his nostrils have been plugged up, but they are now beginning to open up. Cool! Also, if he were to be born this week, he would have an 82 per cent chance of survival.
Appearance: He’s growing hair — with his own colour and texture and everything! I am so curious as to who he’s going to look like. Darling Husband and I have polar-opposite hair, so will it be curly and brown like mine, or straight and blonde like his? Or straight/brown, curly/blonde? I need to know!
I go for the big glucose test
this week, eep! It’s to test for gestational diabetes
, where they make you drink a sickly-sweet orange-pop kind of thing, and then you wait an hour, then go for bloodwork.
This test doesn’t worry me, because I am willing to plunk down $10,000,000 that I don’t have GD. I have had low blood sugar my entire life, and if I am at risk for anything, it’s going to trial for murdering someone who gets in the way of me and the OJ when I’m crashing.
I am a little concerned about how I’m going to feel on that skyrocket-of-orange-sugar high and the subsequent crashing-lower-lower-lower-Oh-God-I’m-dying low. I foresee a migraine or an outburst of tears, or both. Wish me luck!
